Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Plot

The entire plot of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a shared traveling experience with tons of wrong turns and chaos until it finally ends with a happy ending of returning home. Neal and Del go on an adventure by traveling through many different ways, hence the title of the film in order to get home. Neal is the type of guy who is about order and business, and Del is the type of guy to make fun out of sadness and chaos. When you put these guys together, they create history and comedy! This film was all about traveling during the holidays.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Holiday Gone Wrong

This film perfectly shows how chaotic holidays can be without sugarcoating it. By showing how hard it is to travel during the holidays and the longing to be with your loved ones, this makes it the most relatable holiday film!

I didn’t really have a favorite scene or part of the film. However, if I was forced to choose one, I’d have to say the scene in the small hotel room where Neal and Del are forced to share a bed. I found this scene hilarious! Nothing really stood out to me in this film because it’s the type that is sort of bland and faces reality to make the audience feel close.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is given a ninety-three percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics believe that the chemistry between Neal Page and Del Griffith along with the humor and heart made this movie a hilarious holiday classic movie to watch! So, feel free to add this film to your holiday bucket list, because it’s a film you cannot miss! The comedy in this film is at its peak and works still today! Grant Watson, a critic who left a review, said, “It is honestly one of the finest comedy performances of the 1980s cinema.” However, the very few critics who dislike this film believe that the movie is bland, predictable, and could be replaced with something better.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: My Favorite Scene

While the film does have some bland moments, I believe that the film makes up for it with humor and heartwarming moments. This film influenced culture as well! Many film lovers have a tradition to watch this film during Thanksgiving. The fans of this film feel connected to this film because it’s easy to relate to stress during the holidays, plus the overall silly and funny vibe add to the film pleasantly! No one wants to watch a holiday film that doesn’t have a silly and funny vibe to it. This film spiced it up by adding shocking twists and unexpected turns. By expected turns…I mean, literally UNEXPECTED turns! Del Griffith drove the wrong way on the road in one scene and almost died. However, Del drove in between the two semi’s and somehow made it! So, do I feel like this film still works today? I believe it most certainly does! Most people would love to sit down and watch a relatable comedic holiday film, but it’s just not my cup of tea when watching movies.
